Each of these explores a different but related cause or symptom of our very American gun disease. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the untamed 19<sup>th<\/sup> century frontier succumbed to the consolidating power of railroads over real estate and commerce, individuals kept their guns and imagined themselves free.  Today, as the \u201cWild West\u201d of the Internet succumbs to serving the profits of conglomerate owners of technology and speech platforms, individuals keep their laptops and cellphones \u2013 <em>and<\/em> <em>their guns.<\/em> This &#8220;American Way\u201d of teetering between immense concentrations of power, including the gun lobby, and violent fantasies of personal liberty is undermining our freedoms and making some us rethink First and Second Amendment jurisprudence:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.resetdoc.org\/story\/the-shooters-are-us\">In American mass shootings, The Killers R Us<\/a><\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong><em>Reset<\/em>.doc, Oct 3, 2025<\/strong>. This 1300-word column, written in English, is now up also in Italian on the international site Reset.org. Few gun-control advocates in America understand, in any language, this suggestion about what\u2019s driving the acceleration of gun violence in the U.S. Of course, the causes include gun manufacturers and their lobbying and marketing strategies, but equally important, yet much-less discussed, is supposedly anodyne commercial-corporate \u201cspeech\u201d and First Amendment jurisprudence that has expanded its destructive reach into our public and private lives.
